The existing camp garage has been in place for many years. The building began its life in the Twin Cities area, along what is now the I-94 corridor. The building was slated for demolition during the original construction of I-94 in the 1960's. A parent had a connection to MN-DOT and was able to arrange for the building to be donated to Troop 123. It was disassembled, hauled up to Voyager Bay, and re-assembled at camp.
The building has been a useful part of camp for many years, storing lawn and garden equipment, refrigerators, and building supplies. Scouts were even known to sleep in the loft during campouts in the 1980's. Today, the building is showing its age and in need of significant repairs. The space has grown to include three buildings, each of which has reached end-of-life. The harsh N Minnesota climate has caused doors and floors to rot out and made the upper section of the garage less safe for use.
All of the buildings are showing signs of wood rot in the floors and doors. The roofing needs to be replaced, the paint is peeling, and the space has become overgrown with trees
Between the lawn and garden equipment, refrigerators, cooking supplies, and building materials, we have outgrown the space. The old building is no longer animal proof as well
Our Goal: replace the garages with a low-maintenance, secure, animal-proof building that will not only allow for additional storage but will also provide shelter during rain storms
The new building will be approx. 18' x 40' with garage doors on each end and a service door on the side. The side towards the A-frame with extend approx. 10', allowing us to arrange 6 picnic tables, providing shelter for the Troop during rainstorms. The building will sit on a concrete floor, ensuring it is animal proof and secure. The 12' side will provide room for storage and larger equipment
